On the life-story posting site “STORYS.JP”, the story “The Tale of a Last-in-Class Gal Who Raised Her Deviation Value by 40 in One Year and Passed Keio University, the Top Private University in Japan” was uploaded. It quickly spread and started a major movement.
By the way, the startup that was operating STORYS.JP at that time was a rising star. Its members were James Riney, the current CEO of Coral Capital, one of Japan’s leading venture capitals, Koichiro Wada, the founder of Coincheck, Japan’s largest virtual currency exchange, Yusuke Otsuka. Takuro Mizobe, the representative of “Pocket Pair”, who worked on “Pal World”, which sold over 15 million copies in a few weeks after its release, was among the rising stars representing Japan’s startups.

The book “The Tale of a Last-in-Class Gal Who Raised Her Deviation Value by 40 in One Year and Passed Keio University, the Top Private University in Japan” was published by KADOKAWA.
It became a bestseller with over 1.25 million copies sold in total.
2014 September
The author, Mr. Nobutaka Tsubota, appeared on the show “Passion Continent”.
The show’s ratings ranked 7th for the year 2014.

Won the 49th Shinpū Award
This award honors publications and publishers that have brought a new wind to the publishing world in that year and contributed to the revitalization of bookstore sales. It was the first time in 38 years that KADOKAWA had won since the 11th reprint of “The Inugami Family”.

It became a bestseller with over 100,000 copies sold.

The movie “Biri-Gal”, starring Kasumi Arimura, was released.
It was a big hit, with box office revenue of 2.84 billion yen and over 2.2 million audience members
The total number of books sold has exceeded one million.
2015 December
The manga “Biri-Gal ~ The Record of Passing Keio University from Being Last in Class”
(Hana to Yume COMICS) was published as a work by the up-and-coming manga artist, Nuts.
2016 April
The Japanese version of the movie “Biri-Gal”, starring Kasumi Arimura, was released in China.
It set a record for the highest-grossing live-action Japanese movie in its opening week.

Mr. Nobutaka Tsubota, the author of “Biri-Gal”, was appointed as an external director of Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co., Ltd. (until 2023).

Biri-Gal’s Sayaka-chan advanced to the master’s program at Sacred Heart University Graduate School.
2022 Fall
Biri-Gal’s Sayaka-chan advanced to the Graduate School of Education at Columbia University, one of the Ivy League schools in the United States.
She studied in the cognitive science program to scientifically learn why Biri-Gal was born and how it can be reproduced.
2022 September
“The Day Biri-Gal Became Last in Class Again: How I, Who Hated Studying, Went to a Prestigious Graduate School in the United States at the Age of 34” Published by Kodansha, author Sayaka Kobayashi.
It continues to be a long-seller with ongoing editions.
2023 March
Ah-chan (Sayaka’s mother), on the verge of her 60th birthday,
graduated from the Arts and Literature course at Kyoto University of Art and Design.
